Frequently Asked Questions about La Ferme Cheese & our products

What makes La Ferme Cheese different?

La Ferme Cheese has been producing artisanal handmade cheeses in Auroville since 1988. The cheeses are made in small batches using traditional methods, natural ingredients, and milk sourced from local farms rather than intensive dairy farming.

Do you use preservatives, artificial flavors, or colors?

No. La Ferme cheeses contain only milk, salt, vegetarian enzymes, and cheese cultures. No preservatives, artificial flavors, colors, or emulsifiers are used.

Are your cheeses vegetarian?

Yes. La Ferme uses vegetarian enzymes in its cheese-making process.

Is the milk sourced locally?

Yes. Milk is sourced from domestic cows and small local farms around the region.

Are your cheeses handmade?

Yes. All cheeses are handcrafted in small batches using artisanal methods.

Can all cheeses be shipped?

Most cheeses can be shipped. However, fresh cheeses such as Mozzarella, Ricotta, Philadelphia, and very fresh Goat Cheese are more sensitive to heat and may not always be suitable for long-distance shipping.

How should I store my cheese?

Store cheese in the refrigerator at around 4°C. Keep it sealed until use.

Can cheese be frozen?

No. Freezing changes the texture and flavor and may shorten shelf life.

How long will my cheese last?

Shelf life varies by cheese type. Fresh cheeses should be consumed sooner, while aged cheeses keep longer when refrigerated properly. Please read the instructions mentioned in the product details to know specifics.

Why is there mold on my cheese?

Many cheeses naturally develop mold as part of the aging process. In most cases, this does not mean the cheese has spoiled. Surface mold can simply be scraped off if desired.

Why does my cheese look different from a previous purchase?

Because our cheeses are handmade and naturally aged, slight variations in flavor, texture, and appearance are normal and expected.

Why is there a coating on some cheeses?

Some aged cheeses are coated during maturation. This coating is not edible and should be removed before serving.

Which cheese is best for pizza?

Mozzarella is the classic choice. Lofabu also melts beautifully and works well on pizzas, sandwiches, and baked dishes.

Which cheese is best for salads?

Which cheese has the strongest flavor?
