| Emanule Scanziani, Paintings on stone.
"Several years ago, an intimate dialogue started with the form of matter that is stone. When I see a stone, I get visions of landscapes, atmospheres, figures…
Or sometimes the vision comes first and I start looking for the stone that will allow me to materialise the vision which is, most often, inspired by « The Secret of the Veda » and « Savitri » by Sri Aurobindo.
I use all types of stones or slabs whether they are local or not: stones of varied colours and textures, granite, marble… In order to create a more pronounced relief, I may use different materials such as broken or cut glass, pearls, silicone. On these reliefs, watercolours, oil painting, even glass painting or any other medium I happen to come across, allow me to bring out contrasts and colours, and to paint the landscapes and figures seen.
My innermost feeling is that when I paint on the stone, talk and work with it, I work on my own substance – matter – stone, on my physical and psychological nature. It's a way to let the rigidity and hardness of my nature come to the surface, to work on it and soften it, through the power of delight and beauty: consciousness acting upon unconsciousness."
