Introduction
Dr. Teruo Higa, a Japanese professor of agriculture,
developed EM - short for "Effective Micro-organisms" - in
the nineteen-seventies and published his results in 1982. In 1989 EM
was made public on an international level, and is now being used in
more than 120 countries. In India, it is being manufactured since 2000.
AuroAnnam has been in contact with EM from 1998 onwards
and been using it from 1999 onwards. Since EM is produced in India,
AuroAnnam has been a trader of the product and a promoter of the technology.

EM is a liquid culture of aerobic and anaerobic micro-organisms
mainly sourced from human food processing and from nature. It
consists of lactobacilli, yeast, photosynthetic bacteria, ray
fungi and filamentous fungi. It does not contain any genetically
modified organisms, is safe and easy to handle, and harmless to
human health even if accidentally ingested.
EM offers benefits in the following fields of activities: farming,
animal husbandry and care, aquaculture, solid waste management,
sewage and effluent treatment, hazardous waste treatment, hygiene
management, and environmental regeneration.
|
The potential users of EM and EM technology are:
Farmers, gardeners, plantation managers, and nurseries (increase in
yields, improvement of quality and shelf life, soil fertility management
and pest control);
management of animal husbandry (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry),
holders of domestic animals, breeders and owners of horses, zoos, veterinary
clinics;
management of fish and of shrimp farms;
industries of all scales and any production (food processing, chemical
and pharmaceutical, textile and textile dying, tanneries etc.),
hotels, hospitals, schools and institutions (kitchen waste management,
effluent treatment, cooling system, hygiene management),
any housewife and householder for management of hygiene (floors, bathrooms
and toilets, shelves and cupboards), pest control, laundry, kitchen
waste processing and recycling;
owners of garden pools or swimming pools;
municipalities, corporations, and authorities in charge of solid waste
and dumpsite management;
environmentalists working for lake rehabilitation, breakdown of toxic
residues, regeneration of soils and wasteland, also of sodic-saline
soils.
